Auditions

The European Opera Centre invites applications for audition. Auditions are held periodically in centres across Europe. Selection is made by merit alone - there is no quota system by country.

Auditions will be conducted by Laurent Pillot, Director of the Opera Studio of Bayerische Staatsoper München. Maestro Pillot will also consider suitable candidates for the Opera Studio.

Initial Auditions
The European Opera Centre operates an open auditions policy. Although there is no formal age limit, successful candidates are usually 35 years of age or younger. No fee is charged for audition, but travelling and any accommodation expenses must be met by the candidate. Applicants should be nationals of one of the following countries or have been resident in one of these countries for at least two years:

The 27 Member States of the European Union (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom); the three EEA/EFTA countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway); the European Union candidate countries – Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia (including Kosovo) and Turkey.

Repertoire
Auditions are being held for two specific European Opera Centre projects:

Offenbach one-act work; Wolf-Ferrari Il segreto di Susana

This live performance and recording project follows the success of the Centre’s first joint project with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra which led to a highly acclaimed CD recording with the Orchestra’s Principal Conductor, Vasily Petrenko. This project is also led by Vasily Petrenko and will take place in Liverpool in November 2008, during the city’s year as European Capital of Culture.

Candidates who wish to audition for this project should prepare one aria in French, one in Italian, in addition to an operatic aria by Mozart and two other contrasted arias.

Rameau Dardanus

A new version of the opera in currently in preparation. Initial auditions are being held now for this project which will take place in 2009 on Crete.

Candidates who wish to audition for this project should prepare one aria in French, one in Italian, in addition to an operatic aria by Mozart and two other contrasted arias.

 

Forthcoming Auditions

General auditions

Candidates can also be considered for future European Opera Centre projects as well as for the Opera Studio of Bayerische Staatsoper München.

Candidates who wish to undertake a general audition for the European Opera Centre or to be considered for the Opera Studio of Bayerische Staatsoper München should prepare the following:

1 A Mozart aria
2 Four contrasted operatic arias of choice

Pianist
An official pianist will be available at the audition. You may bring your own pianist if you prefer

Application
A completed application form may be sent at any time. No further information is needed other than this and you are discouraged from sending additional material
